There are a variety of factors which give horses advantages or put them at disadvantages in their races.
The Racing Fans' Playstation assigns values to each factor for each horse depending on
whether or not the factor is an advantage or a disadvantage, and how much of an advantage
or disadvantage it is relative to the other horses in the race.
While the Playstation is heavily automated, each factor is examined and adjusted manually when appropriate.
The factors given consideration will vary depending on the characteristics of each race.
The Playstation Totals the Factor Advantages + disadvantages in the column #27
named TFAVs, or "Total Factor Advantage Values".
Fair odds for each horse are calculated based on the each horse's proportionate share
of the sum of all TFAVs for all horses in the race.
The aggressive horse player will look for "arbitrage" opportunities where there is a price discrepancy
between horses' projected fair odds and their actual odds just before post time.
Making a profit as a horse player depends on finding such arbritrage opportunities and
taking your best advantage of them.
Alpha, El Padrino, and Went The Day Well could be examples of arbitrage opportunities
for Kentucky Derby 138, as shown below.
